The Rebirth of a Titan: Oceanco Delivers the 92.9m Superyacht Draak

Douglas McFarlaneJune 30, 2026

At Lomond Yachts, we continually track the evolution of the world’s most extraordinary vessels. Today we are thrilled to spotlight a true marvel of maritime engineering and vision: the newly rebuilt 92.9m (305ft) Oceanco superyacht Draak.

Originally delivered by the esteemed Dutch shipyard Oceanco in 2014 and formerly known to the world as Equanimity and Tranquility, Draak has recently emerged from a comprehensive rebuild at Oceanco’s Life Cycle Support facilities in Zwijndrecht. This transformation is not merely a refit. It is a complete reimagining of a luxury platform into a highly capable, purpose-driven companion yacht.

A New Mission: The Companion Yacht Concept

Draak has been meticulously adapted to serve as the companion yacht to the 111m (364ft) diesel-electric expedition yacht Leviathan. The two vessels are conceived to operate together, and both project teams worked closely to align onboard functionality and facilitate seamless operations across the fleet.

Draak offers a unique platform to complement Leviathan and support the ambitious exploration and research operations of Inkfish. Inkfish is a marine research organisation whose mission is to provide researchers with access to remote environments and the advanced technology aboard the fleet.

“Draak demonstrates what can be achieved by rethinking an existing yacht platform for an entirely new operational purpose,” says Edwin Schneider, Life Cycle Support Project Manager at Oceanco. “By combining original build knowledge with operational insight and close collaboration across all stakeholders, we have created a yacht that offers greater operational versatility while enhancing onboard capabilities for research, exploration and extended cruising.”

Purpose-Built Capabilities for Global Exploration

The scale of the rebuild represents a fundamental shift in the DNA of this vessel. To equip Draak with a highly capable tender fleet and advanced lifting systems, significant exterior modifications were executed.

The upper deck aft helideck was removed to create the necessary clearance for a dedicated, large-scale tender operations area on the main deck aft. Custom lifting systems were installed, including a 12.6 tonne Van Driel jib crane with an 11m outreach on the upper deck aft and a custom-designed C-davit system featuring twin 6.7 tonne units on the main deck. This C-davit system is the largest ever produced by Van Driel.

These enhancements allow for the safe and flexible handling of three tenders and specialised equipment, supported by modular chocks that provide compatibility for containerised transport across the fleet.

From Beach Club to World-Class Dive Centre

The former luxury beach club and spa area has been transformed into a fully equipped, world-class dive centre. This includes a medical treatment area and a specialised hyperbaric chamber supplied by Hytech-Pommec, positioning Draak as a premier platform for underwater exploration.

The swim platform was also extended to integrate an extendable boarding platform and a retractable fender system, increasing Draak’s overall length by just over one metre and enhancing safety during demanding offshore missions.

A Crew-Centric Design Philosophy

Interior spaces were upgraded to align with the same philosophy around which Leviathan was designed and built: that of encouraging shared experiences for the entire onboard community.

With interior outfitting by Vedder, the former main saloon was reconfigured as a shared mess where both guests and crew dine together. The upper deck saloon is now home to a chef’s lab for a more intimate dining experience as well as menu development and training. The original crew mess has been transformed into a communal gym and spa. Accommodation was adapted and expanded to support additional crew and personnel involved in Inkfish operations.

Great care was taken to preserve existing materials and finishes to minimise waste, while focusing on reducing maintenance. Exterior stainless steel handrails received a bead-blasted finish to lessen the need for constant polishing. The hull was repainted in an off-white colour to align with the fleet and reduce the frequency of wash-downs.

Technical Evolution and Future-Proofing

The scope of the rebuild extended deep into the yacht’s technical backbone. Both main engines, the generator sets and the emergency generator underwent major overhauls overseen by Marine Service Noord. Environmental systems were updated to ensure stringent compliance.

The wheelhouse was reimagined as an open, functional space with a completely updated navigation and communication suite. The AV/IT infrastructure was entirely replaced by Alewijnse, requiring the routing of over 18 kilometres of new cabling through existing pathways.

“This rebuild marks a significant evolution of Draak, morphing from a traditional hotel yacht into a highly capable, purpose designed companion yacht like no other,” says Dan Morgan, Managing Director of YTMC. “We are re-delivering a distinctive vessel which has been reimagined as a true workhorse and a multi-role addition for the fleet, combining operational versatility with the luxury, comfort and quality expected from a modern yacht.”
